All about Berrigan
Berrigan is a village, a small town of less than 1,000 residents, located in the Southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The township is located 30kms north of the Murray River, with Melbourne three hours to the south and Sydney seven hours to the north east.
It is home to the offices of the Berrigan Shire Council and close to the Murray River communities of Barooga, Tocumwal, and Mulwala, with Finley to the west and Jerilderie to the north. Industry in the region is predominately agricultural with some of the most innovative irrigated farming practices in Australia.
Major shopping centres and state of the art facilities can be found to the south in Shepparton, or east in Albury-Wodonga, both only just over an hour’s drive, with Wagga Wagga a two hour drive towards Sydney.
In a day trip around the region you can experience some of the best golfing in Australia, a visit to the prime fortified wines region of Rutherglen, a chocolate and whisky factory in Corowa, water-skiing on the Murray River or Lake Mulwala, snow-skiing at the Victorian ski fields, a motor museum in Deniliquin, and so much more.
Berrigan is a very modern, and family-friendly town, and also home to an ageing population, with many retirees choosing to make Berrigan their home, not only locals and retired farmers from nearby, but also grey nomads travelling through town and never leaving, or choosing to return at the end of their travels to settle in the region. When asked what drew them to live in Berrigan invariably the answer is the warm and welcoming nature of the residents.
This ageing population is well catered for, as Berrigan boasts world class hospice and respite facilities at our Berrigan & District Aged Care Facility, Amaroo, including a recently built dementia wing, further details regarding Amaroo Aged Care can be found in our Business Directory as can details for our local Berrigan Pharmacy.
The hospital, or Berrigan Multi Purpose Service (Berrigan MPS), is adjacent and is run by the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
